It's a new month, which means it's time for new art. Always recycled materials and always handmade.
Metro Nashville starts back to school on Tuesday, August 11th which is so hard to believe back to school is upon us. But, time marches on and we create to get through it!
Materials: Foam board, paint, fishing line, cello film and command strips
While tradition tells us back to school displays mean crayons and pencils, books and glue bottles, I think of the accessories (sunglasses, bags, colorful sneakers) and basics we see in a classroom (school chair and ripped out notebook paper) we see and use each day.
And giant legs, because why not?
For the outside display, I wanted something on school-theme and super fun so of course it's an afternoon snack of milk and cookies.
Have you read the book, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" by Felicia Bond? I used to take this book and all the story props along with me when I did new school year home visits to introduce myself and get to know each family just a tiny bit before the year started.
It's a delightful, silly read and I can't help but think of this wacky story each time I look at the outdoor installation.
I hope you're inspired to create art and inspired to bring color into your home and environment when you come to see the store and the changing displays. The art installed is never perfect- it's obviously recycled and beginner level which is the point- to show you how easy it is to add just a little to your everyday- to see your otherwise trash as an opportunity to prove childhood is colorful and full of fun and wonder.

The front table is filled with back to school books, magnetic letters and tracing boards, human body workbooks, squishy hearts, science kits, backpacks and fanny packs, paper goods and lunchbox letters to get your started off on a colorful, curios new year.
